The WASLI Board
WASLI Regional Representative - Asia

Emiko Ichikawa (Japan)
Emiko Ichikawa has been a sign language interpreter for about 35 years, and she is now the President of NRASLI (National Research Association of Sign Language Interpretation, or Zen-tsu-ken).
The NRASLI has worked hand in hand with JFD (Japanese Federation of the Deaf) so as to develop the theory on sign language interpretation and to consolidate sign language interpretation as a profession.
Emiko Ichikawa was first elected as the WASLI regional representative for the Asia region in South Africa in 2005. She was re-elected to serve again in Segovia 2007.
“I take it that it is not my personal job but our organisational one that my post of Regional Representative is. Therefore, I believe that I can shoulder the responsibility thanks to the support of our association. We have few opportunities to see foreign affairs and now just started to think about what we can do. But anyway, we would like to make efforts to help advance WASLI with our experiences.”
