WASLI Regional Representative – Africa

Philemon Akach (South Africa)
Philemon was born in Kenya but now resides in South Africa. He is the Senior Lecturer at the University of the Free State for the Department of Afroasiatic Studies, Sign Language and Language Practice.
He has also been involved in the research and publication of papers on a range of different topics and also has considerable experience in the training of interpreters and the development of sign languages throughout the Africa continent. Philemon is also an experienced International Sign interpreter.
At the WASLI 2005 inaugural conference in South Africa, Philemon was elected as Vice President. He retired from this office at the WASLI conference in Segovia 2007 and was then appointed as the regional representative for Africa by the WASLI Executive Board and with the support of the delegates from Africa who attended.
